Who can take part
- Age 18 or older
- At least one long-term heart, lung, or brain condition (such as heart failure, COPD, stroke, or high blood pressure)
- Currently on a breathing machine for at least 24 hours and expected to need it for at least 72 more hours
- Alert enough to participate (not heavily sedated) and not paralyzed by medication
- Adequate oxygen levels in blood while on the breathing machine
