This study tests whether adding special muscle-strengthening exercises (PNF) to breathing exercises helps patients come off breathing machines faster and more successfully. You'd be in the hospital on a ventilator and meet certain readiness criteria, then receive the additional training alongside standard care.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and conscious, able to cooperate and participate actively in exercises
  • You have been on a mechanical ventilator (breathing machine) for at least 24 hours due to lung failure
  • Your heart and blood pressure are stable without heavy medication support, and you are not heavily sedated
  • You meet specific readiness criteria for coming off the ventilator, including oxygen levels, temperature, and breathing patterns
  • You do not have conditions that would prevent muscle training, such as recent major surgery, rib fractures, or nerve/muscle disease
  • You are not pregnant and do not have severe heart failure or recent cardiac arrest with poor neurological outlook
