Sleep study with a medication in intensive care patients

This study tests a medication called gamma-hydroxybutyrate to see how it affects sleep patterns in patients who are hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU). Researchers will use special monitoring equipment to measure your brain waves and sleep quality while you receive this medication.

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have been in the ICU for more than 48 hours
  • You are stable enough to participate (not at immediate risk)
  • You can have special sleep-monitoring equipment safely attached to you

  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
