  • You have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat in the heart's upper chambers) or atypical atrial flutter (a less common irregular rhythm)
  • Your doctor has recommended electrical cardioversion (a controlled electrical shock to reset your heart rhythm) as a treatment
  • The cardioversion is planned as an elective procedure (scheduled in advance, not an emergency)
  • You do not have typical atrial flutter (a different type of irregular rhythm that would make you ineligible)
  • You do not have focal atrial tachycardia (a different heart rhythm condition)
