  • Scheduled for elective (planned, non-emergency) lower-back spine surgery with instrumentation (hardware like rods or screws)
  • Body mass index (BMI) between 30–34.9 (overweight to obese, but not severely obese)
  • No severe kidney or liver disease
  • No history of cancer, diabetes, or severe neurological conditions
  • No allergy to propofol, sevoflurane, or remifentanil (the anesthesia drugs used in this trial)
