Who can take part

  • You are having lumbar decompression surgery for back pressure affecting 1 to 3 spinal levels
  • Your age is between 40 and 95
  • You are considered healthy enough for general anesthesia (fully asleep during surgery)
  • You should not need major pulling on a nerve root during the operation
  • You must be able to follow up with the study after surgery
  • You must not have strong opioid use (more than 100 mg/day of morphine-equivalent pain medicine) or have allergy/hypersensitivity to propofol or related ingredients, or to eggs/soy products
