Sound-Based Diagnosis Tool for Children's Lung Diseases

This study tests whether recording your child's cough and breath sounds, along with a simple questionnaire, can help doctors better diagnose respiratory (lung and breathing) illnesses in children. The research team will compare children with respiratory symptoms to healthy children to develop a diagnostic tool.

Who can take part

  • Child is between 28 days and 18 years old
  • Child has respiratory symptoms (cough, wheezing, fever with cold symptoms, nasal congestion, sore throat) OR is a healthy child with no recent respiratory illness
  • Parent/guardian can provide informed consent and allow access to medical records
  • Child can complete a symptom questionnaire and allow recording of cough and breath sounds
  • Child does not have severe heart/lung malformations, long-term breathing tubes, severe nerve/muscle disorders, or severe immune system problems
  • Child's current illness is primarily respiratory (not another type of disease)
