Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old and in general good health (no major systemic diseases that affect gum healing)
- You have been diagnosed with stage III periodontitis (moderate to advanced gum disease)
- You have two matching areas of bone loss on opposite sides of your mouth, each with a pocket depth greater than 5 mm and bone loss of at least 3 mm
- The affected teeth are healthy (vital) with a single or multiple roots, and the bone loss is not in a furcation area (between tooth roots)
- You have not had non-surgical gum treatment in the past 6 months or surgical gum treatment in the past 12 months
- You do not currently use tobacco in any form
