Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are scheduled to have pulmonary endarterectomy surgery (a planned surgery to remove blood clots from your lungs—not an emergency)
  • You can have a special heart catheter (thin tube) placed in your pulmonary artery during surgery to monitor pressure
  • You are not already taking norepinephrine, dobutamine, or similar heart-support drugs before surgery
  • You do not have a known allergy to vasopressin
  • You have not had a heart attack or bowel blood-flow problems in the month before surgery
