Spinal Cord Stimulation to Help Children with Spina Bifida Walk

Who can take part

  • Your child has been diagnosed with myelomeningocele (a type of spina bifida) by a neurologist or neurosurgeon
  • Your child can walk at least 10 meters (about 30 feet) with devices like braces or walkers, or with help from another person
  • Your child is between 4 and 17 years old
  • Your child has neurogenic bladder (a bladder that doesn't work normally due to the spinal cord condition) and uses a stable bladder management plan (like catheterization or medications) for at least 4–6 weeks before starting
  • Your child is not pregnant and has no surgery planned in the next 6 months for spina bifida-related issues
  • Your child does not have any implanted electronic devices like pacemakers or insulin pumps
