Who can take part

  • Age 18–75 years old
  • Diagnosed with locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma (cancer that has grown beyond the rectal wall or into lymph nodes, but not spread to distant organs)
  • Good overall health and ability to handle treatment (ECOG score 0–1, meaning you can do light activities or are mostly bedridden only part of the day)
  • Normal blood counts, liver function, and kidney function based on recent lab tests
  • Expected to survive at least 2 years
  • No prior radiation therapy to the pelvis or abdomen
