Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You were admitted to intensive care (ICU) within the last 48 hours
  • You have been diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)—severe difficulty breathing requiring ventilator support—based on oxygen levels in your blood
  • A special catheter (thin tube) measuring pressure in your esophagus has been or will be placed
  • You have health insurance or are covered by a social security scheme
  • You (or a trusted family member if you cannot decide) agree to participate
