Who can take part
- You must have a type of kidney cancer called clear cell renal cell carcinoma that is advanced or has spread and cannot be treated with surgery or radiation.
- You must not have had any prior treatment for advanced kidney cancer, except for some adjuvant (post-surgery) therapy if it was not a type called VEGF/VEGFR inhibitors and the cancer returned at least 6 months after that therapy.
- You must be 18 to 75 years old and in generally good health (able to do most daily activities).
- You must have at least one tumor that can be measured by scans (per RECIST criteria).
- Your blood counts and organ function (kidney, liver, heart) must be within acceptable ranges at the start of the study.
- You must agree to use effective birth control if you or your partner could become pregnant.
- You cannot have brain metastases, other active cancers, serious heart problems, active infections, or uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes.
