- Had an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke at least 12 months ago
- Have moderate arm weakness (not too mild, not completely paralyzed) based on a standard arm strength test
- Can understand instructions, follow two-step commands, and consent to the study
- Brain scans show your brain can still send signals to your hand muscles when stimulated
- No severe cognitive problems, sensory loss, or severe muscle tightness in the affected arm
- No metal implants in your head, pacemaker, or history of seizures in the last year
