  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You have been on a mechanical ventilator (breathing machine) for at least 24 hours
  • Your medical team believes you are ready to try breathing on your own
  • Your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels are stable enough for testing
  • You can stay still and calm during the breathing measurements without fighting the ventilator
  • You are willing to be followed up after extubation to see if you can breathe on your own
