Who can take part

  • You have a blood cancer (leukemia, lymphoma, or similar) and your body rejects platelet transfusions
  • Your blood tests show high levels of HLA antibodies (immune proteins that cause transfusion rejection)
  • You are between 18 and 65 years old
  • You are in reasonably good health overall (able to perform light daily activities with minimal assistance)
  • Your doctor believes you will live at least 6 months
  • You have not had serious bleeding in your brain, lungs, or stomach, and are not taking drugs that damage platelets
