Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 35 years old
  • Your BMI (a measure of height and weight) is between 18 and 25
  • You have anterior knee pain (pain in the front of the knee or behind the kneecap) for at least 3 months, not from an injury
  • Your knee pain occurs during at least 2 activities: stairs, running, squatting, kneeling, or sitting for long periods
  • Your knee pain is mild to moderate (not severe—a score of 6 or less on a pain scale)
  • You do not have a history of knee dislocation, arthritis, ligament tears, or neurological conditions affecting your legs

Hip, knee, and foot exercises for kneecap pain

This study tests whether adding hip and knee exercises to a simple foot exercise (called short foot exercise) helps reduce pain and improve function in women with kneecap pain (patellofemoral pain syndrome). You may be a good fit if you are a woman aged 18–45 who has had front knee pain for at least 6 weeks and it gets worse with activities like squatting or stairs.
