Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You have overall good to fair health (ASA status I–III, meaning your heart and lungs can handle surgery)
- You need elective (planned) chest surgery involving your lungs, esophagus, or chest cavity that requires collapsing one lung
- Your airway anatomy is normal—no narrowing, blockages, or unusual passages
- You've never had chest surgery before, or any surgery that changed your airway structure
- You do not have severe lung or heart disease, and you can do light physical activity (equivalent to walking around slowly)
