Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • Your doctor has recommended knee replacement surgery for wear-and-tear arthritis (not inflammatory arthritis)
  • Your BMI is 35 or higher (a measure based on height and weight)
  • You've never had open surgery on this knee before
  • You can stand safely for at least 5 minutes without a wheelchair or walking aid
  • You speak English and are able to provide written consent
