Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old and admitted to the surgical intensive care unit at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
  • You expect to stay in the ICU for more than 48 hours (about 2 days)
  • You can keep your eyes open for at least 30 seconds and follow simple instructions (like 'squeeze my hand')
  • You do not have significant vision or hearing problems that cannot be corrected
  • You speak English
  • You are mentally stable enough to use the VR headset safely without severe confusion or need for physical restraints
