  • You are between 18 and 50 years old
  • You are in good overall health (ASA I status—no serious pre-existing medical conditions)
  • Your blood pressure is normal before surgery (systolic less than 140, diastolic less than 90)
  • You are having a planned surgery (not an emergency) that requires general anesthesia and a breathing tube
  • You have no known allergies to dexmedetomidine or lignocaine
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
