Who can take part
- You are 18 or older with a body mass index (BMI) of at least 17.
- You have mid-low rectal cancer that is locally advanced (spread nearby but not to distant organs) and has a specific DNA repair type called pMMR or MSS.
- Your tumor is within 12 cm of the anal opening, and your doctor plans to give you total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) before surgery.
- You are able to care for yourself and are up and about at least half the day (ECOG score 0-2).
- Your blood counts, liver, kidney, and clotting function are within normal ranges as checked by blood tests.
- If you can become pregnant, you agree to use effective birth control during the study and for 6 months after treatment.
