Who can take part

  • You must be newly diagnosed with higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and not yet treated.
  • Your bone marrow blasts (immature cells) should be less than 20%.
  • You must be able to start azacitidine chemotherapy and be age 18 or older.
  • Your kidney and liver function must be good enough, with a clear creatinine clearance of at least 30 mL/min.
  • You must not have had any prior cancer treatment for MDS, except supportive care like blood transfusions.
  • You cannot be a candidate for immediate stem cell transplant at the start of the trial.
