Who can take part

  • You are 40 years or older.
  • You have obesity (a BMI of 28 or higher) or extra belly fat (waist size 90 cm or more for men, 85 cm or more for women, or other measures of abdominal obesity).
  • Your systolic blood pressure (top number) is between 140 and 160 mmHg when measured without a doctor present.
  • You take no more than 2 blood pressure medicines, and the dose has not changed in the last 4 weeks.
  • You do not have diabetes, heart failure, or serious kidney or liver problems.
  • You are not taking certain other medicines for weight loss or heart/kidney conditions.
