Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 85 years old.
  • Your doctor thinks you have sepsis from an infection that started somewhere other than your lungs, like your belly, urine, or skin.
  • You had blood or other cultures taken as part of your normal care.
  • Your first blood sample for this study is collected within 6 hours of starting sepsis tests.
  • You do not have lung injury at the time the study begins.
  • You or your family member can give permission (consent) to join.
