Who can take part

  • You are generally healthy or have only mild health problems (ASA I or II).
  • Your body weight is in a healthy range (BMI between 18 and 28).
  • You are having a planned laparoscopic gallbladder removal that will last at least 45 minutes.
  • You will receive propofol and remifentanil anesthesia with a brain activity monitor (BIS) during surgery.
  • You do not have a history of psychiatric or neurological conditions and have not taken certain sedative or antidepressant drugs in the past month.
  • You have no known allergies to the anesthetic drugs being tested, and no conditions that would interfere with the brain monitor.
