Who can take part

  • Your baby is born between 32 and 37 weeks of pregnancy
  • Your baby is born alive at the study hospital
  • Your pregnancy is with one baby (not twins or more)
  • You are able to give permission for the study
  • Your baby does not have a serious birth defect or chromosome problem
  • Your baby does not need immediate advanced help to breathe after birth
  • No severe emergency during delivery that prevents waiting to clamp the cord
  • No placental issues like heavy bleeding or placental abruption that make delayed clamping unsafe
  • No severe growth restriction in the womb with abnormal blood flow in the umbilical artery
