Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must have a specific type of esophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma of the esophagus or gastroesophageal junction).
  • Your cancer must be at a stage where it has spread to nearby lymph nodes or deeper into the tissue, but still removable with surgery.
  • You must be in good enough health to have surgery and chemotherapy, with a performance status of 0 or 1 (able to carry out daily activities).
  • You cannot have had prior chemotherapy or radiation for esophageal cancer.
  • You must have adequate organ function (kidney, liver, and bone marrow) based on blood tests.
