AKI risk test for children in the ICU

Acute Kidney InjuryRenal Replacement TherapyPediatric Intensive Care Unit

This study tests a new way to find children in the pediatric ICU who are at risk for serious kidney injury early, so doctors can start treatment sooner. Your child's kidney stress markers will be checked from a blood or urine sample.

Who can take part

  • Your child is currently admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
  • Your child has a kidney risk score (Renal Angina Index) of 8 or higher.
  • Your child's urine test shows a protein called NGAL at 150 ng/mL or more.
  • Your child has not received dialysis (kidney replacement therapy) before coming to the PICU.
