Nasal insulin to prevent confusion after surgery in older adults with type 2 diabetes

This trial tests if insulin given as a nasal spray can reduce the risk of postoperative delirium (sudden confusion) in older adults with type 2 diabetes who are having liver tumor surgery. If you qualify, you would receive the nasal spray or a placebo before and after your operation.

Who can take part

  • You have type 2 diabetes.
  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for liver tumor surgery that will take at least 2 hours.
  • You do not have dementia or significant memory problems.
  • You have not had a stroke or other serious brain disorder in the last 6 months.
  • Your blood sugar is reasonably controlled (HbA1c 10% or less).
