This study looks at a brain chemical called orexin (which helps control wakefulness) in older adults after surgery. The goal is to see if orexin levels are linked to confusion or agitation that can happen when waking up from anesthesia. If you take part, your blood will be tested before and after surgery.

Who can take part
- You are 60 years old or older
- You are scheduled for a non-heart surgery that will last at least 2 hours under general anesthesia
- You do not have a diagnosed mental illness or take antidepressants/antipsychotics
- You do not have a sleep-wake disorder or take related medications
- You do not have severe liver, kidney, or anemia problems
