Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for a heart procedure (like a stent, pacemaker, or valve replacement), a major non-heart surgery, or you came to the emergency room with a fast heart rhythm.
  • You do not have a history of heart failure.
  • Your blood pressure is above 95 mmHg systolic.
  • Your kidney function is above a certain level.
  • You do not have dementia, advanced cancer, or severe valve disease.
  • You can stay in the hospital overnight after the procedure.
  • You are not allergic to the study medications.
