  • You are 18 or older
  • You are scheduled for a planned heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine
  • You can provide a stool and blood sample before surgery
  • You have not taken antibiotics, probiotics, or prebiotics in the last 4 weeks
  • You do not have severe kidney disease, a kidney transplant, or certain bowel problems
