Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a total knee replacement on one knee
  • You are in good general health or have mild to moderate controlled health conditions
  • You can use a patient-controlled pain pump (PCA) to give yourself pain medicine
  • You do not have nerve damage or weakness in your leg
  • You have not been taking strong pain medicines (like opioids) for a long time
  • You have no allergies to numbing medicines or bleeding problems
