Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), a condition where the heart muscle is thickened and blocks blood flow.
  • Your symptoms are significant enough to limit some daily activities (classified as class II or III by your doctor).
  • You need to be able to have a clear ultrasound of your heart, so the doctors can see how it is working.
  • You should not be taking beta-blockers or calcium-channel blockers for any other heart condition, and you must be willing to stop those if needed.
  • You must not have a history of bad reactions to beta-blocker medicines.
  • Your resting blood pressure should be below 160 mmHg and your resting heart rate below 100 beats per minute.
  • You should not have other significant heart valve problems that are not caused by your hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
