Shockwave therapy versus dry needling for jumper's knee

Part of Pain clinical trials.

This study compares two non-surgical treatments for jumper's knee (pain at the front of the knee from overuse): extracorporeal shockwave therapy (using sound waves to stimulate healing) and dry needling (using thin needles to release tension). The goal is to see which one works better for reducing pain. If you're eligible, you might get one of these treatments, and your progress will be followed to see how well it works.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 35 years old
  • You have had pain from jumper's knee for more than one month
  • Your knee pain is at least a 4 out of 10 on a standard pain scale
  • You have not had knee surgery in the last 6 months
  • You have not had a corticosteroid injection for knee pain in the last 3 months
  • You do not have other chronic knee conditions, a recent knee injury, or a systemic illness
