Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 90 years old.
  • This is your first admission to the intensive care unit (ICU).
  • You have been diagnosed with sepsis (a severe reaction to infection).
  • You are expected to survive for at least 24 hours in the ICU.
  • You do not have a pre-existing brain disease (such as stroke, brain infection, or brain injury).
  • You have not had CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) during this ICU stay.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You can tolerate electrodes placed on your scalp (no major scalp wounds or infections).
