Who can take part
- You are at least 18 years old and pregnant with one baby.
- The baby has a severe left- or right-sided diaphragm defect with underdeveloped lungs and the liver is up in the chest.
- You are between 27 and 29 weeks pregnant when the procedure is done.
- You can live within 30 minutes of NYU Langone Health from the time of the procedure until the balloon is removed.
- You have a support person to stay with you near NYU Langone Health during this time.
- You are willing to follow strict activity restrictions (no exercise, intercourse, or work) for the rest of the pregnancy.
