Blood markers for nerve damage in multiple sclerosis and stroke

This study looks at small particles in your blood called extracellular vesicles. They may show how much nerve damage has happened in multiple sclerosis or after a stroke. The goal is to find a simple blood test that could help track these conditions.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 50 years old and have been diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
  • You have not taken steroids for at least 3 months before joining the study.
  • You have never taken any disease-modifying treatments for multiple sclerosis.
  • You are over 18 and have had an ischemic stroke within the last 24 hours.
  • You do not have any other neurological or autoimmune disease (for the MS group).
  • You do not have signs of infection, or a history of immune or blood disease (for the stroke group).
