How fasting time before banding affects bleeding risk

Who can take part

  • You must be over 18 years old.
  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of portal hypertension (high blood pressure in the liver's blood vessels), with severe varices and a positive red sign (a sign of high bleeding risk) seen on an endoscopy.
  • You are scheduled to have banding for your varices, either to stop active bleeding or as a preventive measure, and the banding is successfully completed during the procedure.
  • You must be able to give informed consent (agree to participate after understanding the study).
  • You must not have any conditions listed in the exclusion criteria, such as uncontrolled active bleeding, previous treatments like TIPS or EVL, severe liver failure, or certain other health issues.
