Predicting ARDS and death after severe chest injury with blood proteins

This study is testing whether certain proteins in the blood (sRAGE, CC16, and Syndecan-1) can help predict if patients with severe chest trauma will develop a serious lung condition called ARDS or have a higher risk of death. By measuring these proteins early, doctors might be able to identify high-risk patients sooner and provide more targeted care.

Who can take part

  • You must be between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You must have a severe chest injury (blunt or penetrating) within the last 24 hours.
  • You must be admitted to a trauma unit or intensive care unit.
  • You must not have certain pre-existing conditions (e.g., chronic lung disease, active cancer, pregnancy).
  • You must not have major injuries outside the chest.
