Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You were admitted to the ICU within the last 24 hours
  • You have ARDS (a serious lung condition) diagnosed by standard criteria, including low oxygen on a ventilator and lung changes on imaging
  • Your heart cause of lung symptoms has been ruled out by an echocardiogram
  • The trial testing period starts before you have had a positive COVID-19 PCR in the breathing samples
  • You are not already on full-dose (curative) blood-thinner treatment, ECMO, or certain blood-thinning treatments used with kidney-related purification before ICU
