Brain stimulation plus counseling for cannabis use

This study tests whether adding a noninvasive brain stimulation technique (called tACS) to motivational interviewing—a type of counseling—can help people reduce their cannabis use. You will receive the brain stimulation during counseling sessions, and your progress will be monitored over several weeks.

Who can take part

  • You are between 21 and 65 years old.
  • You consider your cannabis use to be a problem.
  • You have not been in treatment for another substance (like alcohol or opioids) in the past 30 days.
  • You have no history of brain injury, major neurological disease, or vascular/neurodegenerative disorder.
  • You do not have current psychosis or a past-year substance use disorder other than cannabis, alcohol, or nicotine.
  • You are not pregnant or have no other reason you cannot undergo MRI or brain stimulation (tACS).
