Mitral valve leak after heart surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This study looks at heart ultrasound images from people who had surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a condition where the heart muscle is thickened) to see if a temporary leak in the mitral valve (which helps blood flow through the heart) is common and how it changes before leaving the hospital. This could help doctors better understand recovery after this type of surgery.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are scheduled to have a septal myectomy (a surgery to remove thickened heart muscle) for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • You will have ultrasound pictures of your heart taken during the surgery and again before you leave the hospital.
  • You have not had previous heart valve repair or replacement, and you don't have a structural mitral valve problem (like a leak due to a damaged valve) from causes other than hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

NCT03962023Recruiting
Study of heart ultrasound features in mitral valve leakage

This study looks at how findings on a standard heart ultrasound (transthoracic echocardiography) can predict outcomes for adults with mitral valve leakage caused by valve prolapse. It may help doctors better understand which ultrasound features matter most, using past and future medical records.

Study of heart valve leak in people with coronary heart disease

This study looks at people who have coronary heart disease and a leaky mitral valve caused by a heart attack or reduced blood flow to the heart. The goal is to learn more about this condition and find better ways to treat it.

Heart rhythm study for patients getting mitral valve surgery

This study looks at heart rhythm problems in people having mitral valve surgery to fix a leaky valve. It may help doctors better understand who is at risk for dangerous rhythms.

How the heart changes after mitral valve repair surgery

This study at Mayo Clinic uses MRI and other tests to see how the heart's main pumping chamber changes shape after robot-assisted mitral valve repair surgery for severe mitral regurgitation. It may help doctors better understand how patients recover.

NCT04396379Not yet recruiting
Mitral valve ring for leaky valve with open heart surgery

This trial tests a device placed during open heart surgery that tightens the leaking mitral valve to reduce blood flowing backward. It may help people whose valve leak is caused by heart muscle weakness and who are already having another heart surgery.

Monitoring left atrial pressure before and after mitral valve repair

This study tracks left atrial pressure (the pressure in the upper left chamber of the heart) before and after mitral valve repair surgery. It aims to see if this monitoring helps improve recovery and long-term outcomes.
