Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have been diagnosed with severe chronic primary mitral regurgitation (a leaky heart valve that has been present for a while and is caused by a problem with the valve itself).
- You are scheduled to have a robot-assisted surgery to repair your mitral valve (annuloplasty) at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and no other valve surgeries at the same time.
- You have not had any previous heart valve surgery or procedure.
- You have not had a heart attack or been diagnosed with a heart muscle disease that is not related to your mitral regurgitation.
- You are not pregnant, and you do not have any implantable devices or severe allergies that would make an MRI or contrast dye unsafe.
