- NCT02333825Enrolling by invitation
Study of first-time kneecap dislocation in youth
This study focuses on children and teens (25 or younger) who have had only one kneecap (patella) dislocation episode. It’s testing an approach for stabilizing the knee, aiming to help prevent future instability and improve outcomes for first-time dislocators.
Ages 8–25 - NCT06883396Recruiting
Looking at why MPFL knee surgery fails
This study looks at why some people's kneecaps keep dislocating after a specific type of surgery (MPFL reconstruction). It aims to find risk factors that might cause the surgery to not work as well.
Redwood City, CaliforniaAges 10–35 - NCT04554212Recruiting
Blood flow restriction therapy after kneecap instability
This trial tests whether a special exercise method called blood flow restriction training can help people recover faster and get back to running and pivoting activities after a kneecap (patella) that slips out of place. It may help strengthen the knee while you go through physical therapy.
Lexington, KentuckyAges 14–40 - NCT04849130Recruiting
Compare two surgical MPFL techniques for kneecap dislocation
This trial compares two ways surgeons rebuild a key ligament (the MPFL) to help stop recurrent kneecap dislocations. It may help you by checking which technique works better for stability and recovery.

Common questions
- Are there clinical trials for patellar instability?
- Yes. Clin2 currently lists 4 recruiting patellar instability studies from the U.S. registry, each rewritten for real people, not researchers, so you can see what it’s testing and who it’s for.
- How do I know if I qualify for a patellar instability trial?
- Each study lists its eligibility criteria — rules about age, diagnosis, and prior treatments. On every Clin2 trial page we explain these in words written for real people and offer a short, optional pre-screen for a fit read. The study team makes the final decision.
- Does it cost anything to join a patellar instability trial?
- Using Clin2 is always free. Many trials cover the cost of the study treatment and related visits; some reimburse travel. The study team explains exactly what’s covered before you decide.
