Who can take part

  • At least 6 months old (for patients with insulin resistance or family members); at least 12 years old for healthy volunteers
  • If you have severe insulin resistance: very high fasting insulin levels, need large amounts of insulin daily, or show certain physical signs like dark skin patches or abnormal fat distribution
  • If you're a family member of someone in the study: you must be a biological relative of a patient with suspected genetic insulin resistance
  • Able to understand the study and sign consent (parent or guardian can sign for minors)
  • For healthy volunteers: no active medical conditions and not currently taking most prescription or non-prescription medications
  • For pregnant women: family members cannot participate if pregnant at enrollment
