Who can take part
- You are age 18 to 80
- You have narrowed carotid arteries, based on a scan showing a certain percent blockage
- If you have symptoms: it must be on the same side as the narrowed artery (TIA under 24 hours or a non-disabling stroke, or temporary one-eye vision loss)
- If you do not have symptoms: your blockage and risk level must fit one of the study’s categories (standard, anatomic, or physiologic risk for surgery)
- You do not have severe heart, lung, liver, or kidney conditions listed in the exclusions
- You do not have advanced dementia, and you do not currently have active metastatic cancer treatment
