This study looks at whether a structured physical activity program can support thinking and brain development in children around age 2–5. Your child may be eligible if they are having certain surgeries or fit a matched “control” group and do not have specific neurologic or heart-related issues.

Who can take part
- Your child is age 30 months or older
- Your child is having surgery at Columbia University before the operation, or is in a matched group (sibling, relative, or “best buddy” of a child with congenital heart disease)
- Your child does NOT have a known genetic/chromosomal syndrome (for example DiGeorge, Down syndrome, Williams, Noonan, or Turner)
- Your child has no known major brain/spinal cord injury (like stroke, seizure disorder, or significant bleeding at birth)
- Your child’s baseline oxygen level on room air is 80% or higher
