Who can take part

  • You’re at least 15 years old (or estimated weight over 50 kg if age is unknown)
  • You’re in an emergency with severe bleeding shock from a belly (abdominal) source
  • Doctors confirm the bleeding is in the abdomen (by seeing it, an ultrasound test, or a procedure that samples fluid from the belly)
  • There is no other ongoing, uncontrolled bleeding source besides the abdomen
  • You must be on a breathing machine and sedated, and doctors decide within 30 minutes of arriving at the ER
